We’ll explore the demand for editing services in these fields and help you understand your clientele and what is important to them. You’ll learn best practices for editors, including the role of the editor, professional standards and codes of practice. We also cover accreditations and the exam for BELS—the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences—to provide a thorough insight into what’s expected of professional editors in these fields. 

This masterclass provides specific guidance for scientific and medical editing, including language for different audiences, ethical standards and different types of study designs you may encounter. We also cover grammar and language issues that scientific and medical editors often face, as well as statistics and data visualisation in documents. The masterclass will give you a solid understanding of the most commonly used statistics and data types and how to present them. You’ll also learn how to support English as an Additional Language (EAL) clients as an editor and be informed about professional development options to enhance your skills as a scientific or medical editor.
